Individual Counselling

“Counselling and psychotherapy are umbrella terms that cover a range of talking therapies. They are delivered by trained practitioners who work with people over a short or long term to help them bring about effective change and/or enhance their wellbeing”.

British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy.

For me counselling offers clients the opportunity to confidentially explore their experiences and emotions, to work through decisions and to work towards changing aspects of their lives, or how they cope with these, in a safe, non-judgemental environment where they can be free to be totally themselves

Coming to counselling can be daunting if this is something you have not accessed before.

I believe that having taken the first step of accessing counselling you deserve a professional, friendly, trustworthy service.

I wouldn't hire a decorator or plumber without checking their credentials and speaking to the person first.  Why should healthcare be any different?

To allow you to "check me out" my credentials are all shown on this site (certificates can be seen at first appointment) and I offer an initial 20 minute telephone chat to let you find out what therapy I recommend and how I feel it could help. If I feel that you would be better served by a different service or type of therapy to those I offer I would inform you of this.

Once you make the decision to go ahead with therapy the first appointment will be an assessment to enable us to choose the appropriate therapy for you and to allow me to ensure that your needs are met by the therapy and to allow you to ask me any questions. Within this session we will create a contract to give you clarity and confidence and to outline our agreement.  We can revisit this contract whenever you wish throughout your sessions.

All session content is kept confidential unless you make me aware that you are at risk or someone else is at risk, or you intend drug trafficking or undertaking acts of terrorism as I am obliged to pass on this information.

Therapy sessions last a therapeutic hour, in other words 50 minutes and these can be offered in

Chester-Le- Street, Sunderland or in some cases Washington.

Initial assessment session costs £25. Counselling sessions cost  £46 each (Sessions must be paid for in advance or in session) or you can book and pay in advance for a block of 6 for £250 (saving you over £4 per session).

Sessions can vary in number to meet your needs, some clients only require a couple of sessions and others require long term work, and others somewhere in between. We are all individual and we will agree on the planned number of sessions within our assessment, although again this can be reviewed as necessary.
